Hi everyone! It's my birthday!!! No, nothing exciting is going on...I had to work all day and have no other plans, but I do get to see my parents later in the week! It's been a whole 10 months since I've seen them, and it will be so nice to be around someone besides my husband and tiny group of co-workers (no offense to them). If you had asked me last year on my birthday whether or not we'd still be in this position over a year later, I would have said no way. Alas, maybe we're getting just a little closer to the finish line.
Tonight I've got the new 8-piece collection (7 new and 1 throwback release) from Noodles Nail Polish to share with you. It features 6 crellies in various shades and 2 glitter toppers. This set will be available this Friday, April 16th at 6 PM EST on the Noodles website. All polishes will retail for just $9.50 each. This is going to be a picture-heavy post, so we should get going.
Best Techniques for Smoothing Out and Removing Glitter *updated 2/1/21*
Noodles Nail Polish is all about the glitter, all the time. While we all love the bling, it can be a pain to remove. Oh, and it can be known to eat topcoat which leaves texture on the nail after it dries. If you are especially sensitive to feeling your polish, make sure your topcoat is a thick one, or apply a second coat of a thinner one.
Instead of applying 2 coats of thick topcoat, several indie brands have come out with a product that you use after your last coat of polish and before your topcoat. These are generally thick and "fill in" the gaps left from the glitter. Here are several products I use and recommend (in no particular order):
1. Glitter Grabber from Glisten and Glow
2. Gelous from American Classics
3. Smooth from Painted Phalanges (dries with a matte finish unlike the others)
4. Smooth and Shine Duo from Esmaltes da Kelly (available through Polish Pickup some months)
I also use peel-off basecoats to make removal a breeze. I recommend UNT Ready for Take Off, or Hit the Bottle Keepin' it Peel as they both work well (I am not affiliated with either site or brand...I'm just sharing the love). The UNT works better for my body chemistry as the Hit the Bottle will sometimes pop off during the day. It seems like the UNT has been harder to find lately, so there's always the Holo Taco one if you really need one. If you want your polish to last a little longer, I completely understand. In that case, the foil method will work best for you when you're ready for a change. Clips like these are cheap and great for keeping the cotton balls in place. Noodles Nail Polish Don't Worry, Be Hoppy (3 coats)
Up first we have Don't Worry, Be Hoppy which is a light grey crelly base with white with white and pink hexagonal glitters. I ended up getting more white glitters than pink, but I've seen swatches from other bloggers and they had more pink. This is likely because who knows how long I let this one sit upside down to bring the heavier glitters to the top. You all know my love of grey polishes, so you know I love this one. I found the crellies to a little thinner than some previous collections, but not in a bad way at all. I know some people dislike a thicker nail polish and they'll enjoy this formula. I ended up using 3 thin coats for my photos with a layer of glitter filler and top coat.
Noodles Nail Polish Garden Party (3 coats)
Whoa, Natalie really surprised me with Garden Party! Never in a million years would I think to combine a taupe color with these bright glitters. This one was easily my favorite of the collection. It's a taupe crelly base with aqua blue, gold, and lime green hexagonal glitters. It's a little murky and a little bright with the glitters. I used 3 thin coats for full opacity.
Noodles Nail Polish Love in Bloom (1 coat) over 2 coats of Zoya Val
We are lucky to have not one, but 2 glitter toppers for this release. Love in Bloom is a bit softer than the other glitter topper, and I love polishes with heart glitters. Love in Bloom is a clear-based glitter topper with white hearts, pale peach/blue/light yellow/purple/pink/white hexagonal glitters of various sizes. I definitely recommend letting this one sit upside down for a half hr before using to bring those heart glitters to the top. I did have to fish a little bit for the hearts, but it was totally worth it. This is one dabbed coat over Zoya Val. Side note, the Zoya Earth Day sale just started, so if you want some great colors to use as a base, definitely check it out.
Noodles Nail Polish Spring Tweetings (3 coats)
Up next we have Spring Tweetings which is a soft white crelly base with peach microflakes and pink/peach/light blue glitters. I found the base to be more on the cream side of crelly, and the glitters really add a bit of depth in the background instead of really standing out if that makes sense. I found that the glitters also made the white look a bit creamier than a stark white here. There's just something that makes this one feel a bit modern. I used 3 thin coats with a coat of glitter smoother and topcoat to get a glass-like finish.
Noodles Nail Polish Sunshine and Blue Skies (3 coats)
Continuing on we have Sunshine and Blue Skies which is such an interesting shade. It's an extremely pale lemon yellow crelly base with yellow microflakes, and white/mint/aqua hexagonal glitters. I found that the glitters stayed in the background a bit more just like we saw with Spring Tweetings (but not quite as much here...likely due to the brighter glitters used in this one). Upon first glance, I thought the base color was almost a pale chartreuse color, but I think it was just the glitter color combo that was throwing my eye. It's definitely a lemony base. I used 3 thin coats for full opacity, but I recommend really thin coats.
Noodles Nail Polish Weeping Willow (3 coats)
There should be more sage nail polish colors, don't you agree? Weeping Willow is a light sage green crelly base with gold shimmer and light gold glitters. This one is for sure a top pick of the collection. I found this to be brighter and less dusty version of a sage color. Yet again, I used 3 thin coats with an extra layer of glitter grabber and topcoat.
Noodles Nail Polish Wisteria Blossoms (3 coats)
The last shade of the collection is Wisteria Blossoms which is a cream crelly base with lavender glitters and microflakes. It just so happens that wisteria just started blooming here in NC, and it's so pretty. It's hard to get rid of wisteria once it's established, so I don't recommend you grow it as it's an aggressive vine grower. That said, it's so beautiful and smells good. This is another top pick for me as I love the purple and white together. I used 3 thin coats to get full coverage, and I used a coat of glitter grabber and topcoat to smooth it all out.
Throwback Release
Noodles Nail Polish Egg Hunt 2.0 (1 coat) over 2 coats Zoya Jodi
Egg Hunt was released a few years ago, and I'm so glad Natalie is bringing it back. Unfortunately this is coming out after Easter (it's just how the timing went as she was setting the calendar for the release), but you better believe I'm wearing this one next year. I mean, you don't have to wait to wear it for Easter; it's just that it looks like the old school plastic Easter grass I got in the bottom of my basket back in the day. The circle glitters make for the perfect "eggs" in the grass. You have to be a bit more careful in applying this one. I found that the "dab and place" method worked best for me. Make sure to remove as much of the excess clear base off the brush as possible, and dab the glitters around on the nail. Make sure none of the bar glitters hang over the free edge, otherwise it will annoy you...trust me, I've made this mistake before. This is yet another top pick for me.
