Hi folks! It was indeed a manic Monday today. It was so manic that it feels like it should be Wednesday already. Tonight I've got 5 items from the October Polish Pickup which has a theme of Animation this month. I'm not going to lie, I must not watch many animated shows because I didn't know the inspiration for many of the products this month while going through my wishlist. That doesn't matter much to me; if the polish is pretty, I'm gonna buy it. New to PPU? If so, here's how it works:
Definitely join the Polish Pickup Facebook Group. You don't necessarily need to actively participate in the group, but it will give you a look at the polishes that will be available in the coming month. PPU themes are chosen by the people, often a few months in advance (brands need time to find their inspiration and test their polish). Any indie brand that has been around for at least a year can participate and each has their own specific inspiration picture and polish for that month. All you need to do is go to the Polish Pickup site during the pre-order window (the first Friday-Monday of the month) to make all of your purchases of these exclusive polishes. There's no need to pay for multiple shipping charges; since this is a pre-order, all polishes get sent to Polish Pickup and they send you the polishes you ordered. Yup, it's that simple. Oh, and shipping is a flat-rate of $3 to the US (more for international and they just had to increase the pricing to Canada). Recently they also opened a UK site which you can find here. Since all orders are pre-orders, shipping will take place about 3 weeks after the end of the pre-order.
PPU starts Friday, Oct. 2nd at 11:00 AM ET and ends on Monday, Oct. 5th at 11:59 PM (but if a polish has a cap and sells out before the end of the pre-order, it's gone, unless you get lucky and the cap gets raised...which is rare) on the PPU website. The website is currently open for wishlisting, so go check out this month's offerings STAT. Time for swatches!
Noodles Nail Polish Night Fury (3 coats)
Inspiration: How to Train Your Dragon
Price: $12
Cap: 150 bottles
Up first we have Night Fury From Noodles Nail Polish which took inspiration from the movie How to Train Your Dragon. It's a chocolate brown crelly base with a touch of holo, copper/gold/green color-shifting flakes, and orange/gold/copper hexagonal glitters. This one reminds me of fallen leaves, don't you agree? I used 3 thin coats for my photos, and it dried with a little bit of texture that smoothed out with a coat of topcoat. This one is fall in a bottle.
Pepper Pot Polish Death by Snu Snu! (3 coats)
Inspiration: the "Amazon Women In The Mood" episode of Futurama
Price: $11.50
Cap: No cap
Look at that shifty goodness! Now I HAVE seen this episode of Futurama. Death by Snu Snu! is a mauve base that shifts to gold/green at angles with a holo finish. Straight on the mauve stands out, with the gold/green coming out to play at more extreme angles. I went ahead and used 3 thin coats for my photos, and it dried with no texture (and was easy to remove, too!).
Starlight and Sparkles Polish Jupiter Power! (3 coats)
Inspiration: Senshi of Protection in Sailor Moon
Price: $12.50
Cap: 150/UK 15/UK
Starlight and Sparkles has 2 items for PPU this month. The polish is Jupiter Power! which is a blue-based green crelly base with pink shimmer, pink to gold to green shifting aurora shimmer, and a hefty dose of pink glitters - matte, metallic, and holo, hex and square, all in shades of pink! I used 3 thin coats for my photos and even with the glitters, I didn't need 2 coats of topcoat to smooth it out. I think I mentioned a few weeks ago of my love for pink and green together, so you know I love this one.
Starlight and Sparkles Galaxy in a Bottle
Inspiration: the miniature Tau star system in Sailor Moon S!
Price: $7.50
Cap: 100/US 5/UK
Yeeeessss, Issa from Starlight and Sparkles has another snowglobe in a bottle for this month! No, there's no polish in this bottle. In fact, you can't even open the bottle! The main focus for these are the stars! Tiny silver holo, black holo, and black stars, and slightly larger silver holo stars fall through a surrounding sparkle of shining dark grey tiny flakies, holographic microflakes, dark colored tiny glitter, and green to purple shifting aurora pigment! The stars are larger and heavier, and fall more quickly, while the smaller glitters and flakes drift more slowly downward, and the microflakes and pigment stay floating even longer. After it's shaken up, you can tilt and flip the bottle, watching the stars dance through their surrounding space.
These are a cousin to a previous Starlight and Sparkle items, Flurry in a Bottle! Galaxy in a Bottle will take a bit more shaking (a little more time and number of shakes, not harder shaking!) to get the fine pigment and holographic microflakes to disperse, but they'll stay up for quite a while once they're shook up!
The cap has a stainless steel eyehook on the top, so you have the option of leaving it as is and setting it somewhere for easy playing with, or it can be attached to or hung from something using one of the three included attaching pieces. There is a lanyard clip and a small ball chain with clasp (good for attaching to a purse or tote), as well as a lobster clasp with a ring on the end (good for using a ribbon loop to hang it like an ornament). Right now I have this on my keychain. Check my video below to see this snow globe in action!
Static Lacquer The Source (3 coats)
Inspiration: the animated movie 9
Price: $12
Cap: 140/US 10/UK
Whoa, what an eye-searing shade! Who said we can't squeak a little more summer out. The Source is a bright neon lime base with holographic pigment and a lime to orange shift. The bright lighting makes it a little harder to see the shimmer in there and it's easier to see in person. There was no patchiness in the application, and I ended up using 3 coats for full opacity. It dried with no texture and was easy to remove.
There you have it, folks! I've already been making my wishlist on the website, and it is quite long. There is a great deal of variety of this month, and I'm loving it. A few of these items have a cap, so it's best to add your items to your cart the night before the sale goes live. You need to have an account and sign in first before adding your wish listed items to the cart. Easy peasy. What do you think? Which ones are you picking up?
