OPI Spring 2020 Mexico City Swatches and Reviews

*press samples*

Hi guys! It's been a hot minute since I've reviewed a proper mainstream brand (I consider Zoya to be a bit on the cusp). Influenster sent over 6 polishes from the newest OPI Spring Collection which was inspired by the bright colors of Mexico City. I also have some other nail and cuticle care items from OPI to share with you that can amplify your manicures.

These are all available now at your local Ulta store or online for $10.50 each, so get some of that retail therapy on while we're stuck inside a bit for the coronavirus. And I'll just leave it at that. We're here to look at some pretty polishes and have some positivity in our lives. Shall we see some swatches?

OPI Don't Tell a Sol (3 coats)

This is just the kind of yellow I love with my skin tone. It's not quite a taxi cab yellow, but almost. Yellows are notoriously hard to apply, but this was actually pretty good. It did need 3 thin coats, but they were easy coats.

OPI Mi Casa Es Blue Casa (2 coats)

Up next is Mi Casa Es Blue Casa which is a bright cobalt blue creme. I'm not saying I don't have a color that is somewhat similar, but it's still a nice one with a perfect formula in just 2 coats.

OPI My Chihuahua Doesn't Bite Anymore (2 coats)

My tastes seem to have changed over the years, because I didn't think much of My Chihuahua Doesn't Bite Anymore in the bottle, but I fell in love on the nails. It just looks perfect, and would make a great pedi color for this summer, too. They call this a vibrant orange, but I don't see that at all. To me, it's more of a pinky red verging on coral. Either way, it only needed 2 coats for full opacity and had the perfect formula.

OPI Telenovela Me About It (2 coats)

Upon first glance, I didn't notice the shimmer in Telenovela Me About It, but get a little extra light on it, and it lightly sparkles. It's a bright pink base with light purple shimmer. I love pink, and I love this one. I expected to need 3 coats, but a thicker second coat was just enough.

OPI Verde Nice to Meet You (2 coats)

Last, but not least we have Verde Nice to Meet You which is more of a dusty teal color than the bright green they claim it to be. I love dusty colors, and this one dries a shade darker than the bottle color. You may need a third coat with this one, but I used 2 thicker ones and it was enough.

OPI Expert Touch Lacquer Remover

This was my first time trying the OPI lacquer remover. To be honest, it was a little harsh for my nails, but I'm used to using acetone additive which makes it a bit more gentile. A quarter of a bottle made this perfect for my nails. If you need something to take off glitter or gel, this would work well.

OPI Pro Spa Nail and Cuticle Oil ($15.95)

I'm used to cuticle oils with fewer ingredients, but this is still a pretty good one. I didn't like to see alcohol in the list, but I'll let it go since there's lots of other good oils in it. It's pretty thick and I think would be best for a nighttime oil and not a daytime one.

OPI Infinite Shine Primer + Gloss Duo Pack

Step 1 is to apply a coat of the Infinite Shine Primer which I found applied easily and dried quickly which I really appreciated.

Step 3 (after lacquering) is applying a layer of Infinite Shine Gloss which claims to give up to 11 days of wear with the system. I only wore one of the polishes for about 3 days and I got chips on a couple nails, so I can't back up the 11 day claim. That said, it's all about body chemistry, so this very well may work for you, and I'll definitely be giving it another try.

I weirdly don't use drying drops very often because I use quick dry topcoats. If you happen to use topcoats that take a few extra minutes then I think this would work perfectly for you. I did find it helped the Infinite Shine Gloss dry a bit quicker. And since it has some oil in it, it moisturized the cuticle a bit as well (I couldn't use it before taking photos of my manis because the lights made my skin look too shiny).

OPI Gelcolor Artist Series

I have never seen a brush and art set from OPI before, so I was ecstatic to receive this set. The dotting tool is 2-ended, with a smaller end and a larger ball on the other. There's also striping brush which is the thin and stiff brush shown above. The larger white brush is the French Smile Line brush which probably won't get as much use to me as I never do french manicures. The one that will definitely get the most use is the cleaning tool which is the small black brush. I'm currently halfway through the lifetime of my cleanup brush, so I don't want to start a brand new one just yet. This one seems to be a good quality with no shedding or anything. I would expect OPI to have quality professional tools.

There you have it! I'm honestly pleasantly surprised with the products I received. I haven't worn that many mainstream polishes lately, and it was definitely a little bit of nostalgia. I'm happy to know that OPI still has quality products, despite not every product working perfectly for me. All of the products minus the brush and nail art set are available now on the Ulta websiteKeep an eye out for them in your local Ulta store if you want to see the bottles in person before you buy.
