Sally Hansen Summer 2014 Limited Edition Color Destinations Passport to Rio Xtreme Wear Collection Review and Swatches

Sally Hansen Passport to Rio Xtreme Wear Collection

Just a few days ago I showed you the Sally Hansen Insta Dri spring 2014 collection, and now I have the summer 2014 Color Destinations Passport to Rio Xtreme Wear collection which contains 6 brand new matte glitters in a clear base. While I love these in theory, you will see an issue with all of them in just a moment. You can find these at your local drugstore (likely Walgreens, Target, Rite Aid and CVS) and usually retail around $2.99. There is no special packing for these limited edition polishes, and they all contain the usual long neck brush.

If you look at my swatches, you can easily find the problem: they bubble like crazy! I mean, not just a few bubbles, but all over the nail bubbles. And yes, I was recommended to try the makeup sponge technique, but it did not help one bit (I don't remember what polish I used it on, but from looking at the pictures I can't tell...which shows it didn't work). The problem is that the suspension is really thick and gloopy. I think if you thin it out too much, the glitters will sink. The other problem is that the glitter is really sparse, despite what it looks like in the bottle. I tried to take off as much base while leaving a little glitter and dabbing, but that didn't help either. This really may not be a deal breaker for some since the price is right, and you can't really see the bubbling unless you are looking at your nails closely.

Sally Hansen Beach Ball (2 coats) over 2 coats Barracuda

Beach Ball is your perfect 4th of July glitter polish representing the red, white and blue. Not very original, but perfect for Memorial Day or the 4th.

Sally Hansen Carnival (2 coats) over 2 coats Glow With It

Carnival was the one I was looking forward to the most with its fun mix of springtime matte glitter. Very pretty, but very bubbly.

Sally Hansen Copa-banana (2 coats) over 2 coats In the Groove

This combination sort of reminds me of Scooby Doo. Just me? Anyway, Copa-banana is a yellow and black mix with bubbles.

Sally Hansen Fruit-ta-ta (2 coats) over 2 coats Love Train

Fruit-ta-ta has some very light pink glitter which looks like the red reflecting off the white glitter. Oh, and there's black matte glitter in there as well.

Sally Hansen Splash (2 coats) over 2 coats Revobluetion

Splash and Tidal Rave are basically the same polish with Splash containing white glitter with the light and royal blue.

Sally Hansen Tidal Rave (2 coats) over 2 coats Dreamsicle

Yup, light and royal blue with black glitter instead.

Overall, it's up to you to decide if the bubbles bother you or not. Perhaps someone can show me how to make these work! You can find more information on what's going on at Sally Hansen on their Facebook or Twitter pages.

Ugh. It's like they're trying to start a new trend - the carbonated soda manicure!

Bubbles happen when it's warm, and/or when your hands are warm. Try now that it's winter and see.
