Oke Doke: Steal This Teal

Oke Doke Steal This Teal (2 coats)

Blarg, there was a horrific accident on the highway earlier today which caused my 1 hour commute to last 3 and a half hours. Needless to say, I am sick of being in the car! I thought about skipping the blog post tonight, but I just couldn't leave you guys hanging. It really makes me feel great knowing that some of you come back to the blog every day just to see what I've got to show.

Oke Doke is a new brand for me. I had seen them at Rite Aid previously, but nothing seemed to call out to me...until Steal This Teal. The name seems to be a knock off of the brand tokidoki which has characters on them and can be found at Sephora. I'm not really interested in any of the tokidoki stuff, but apparently it's a big thing. Steal This Teal is a teal blue polish with beautiful green shimmer throughout. I think the green is what really makes this polish special. I was also pretty pleased with the formula on it and also the fact that it only needed 2 coats. The bottle is similar to the ones found on Butter London polishes in that it has a removable cap that you take off and twist the nub underneath it.

Orly Precious Collection Spring 2011: Royal Velvet

Orly Royal Velvet (2 coats)

I must admit, I am a bit disappointed with my photography on Royal Velvet. I can promise you that it is indeed a duochrome, despite it just looking like a blue shimmer in the pics above. If you look at the edges of the polish you can sort of see the purple in it. The application was slightly thin, but that seems to be pretty normal for Orly polishes. It was also fairly opaque, needing only 2 coats. I showed you Ancient Jade from the Precious collection a few months ago, and I think Royal Velvet is the only other standout of the collection. Fortunately, I recently saw a preview of upcoming collections from Orly on the Body and Soul blog and they look pretty awesome.

China Glaze Summer 2011 Island Escape Collection: Electric Pineapple

China Glaze Electric Pineapple (2 coats)

You know what is the worst on your nails? Bowling. It was a friend's birthday and we all went out for $1 bowling at the local alley. It's been years since I've last played and a great time was had. I was wearing Gelous so my nails were pretty protected (it does a great job of thickening up your nails), but I still lost a little length on my middle and ring fingers. Thank goodness it wasn't my swatching hand! I swear, I don't feel that girly in real life, but when I complain about chipping a nail I die a little inside.

I think this is the last polish I got from the Island Escape collection. I would have bought more, but I had to leave room for other summery colors from other brands (I'll be featuring some Misa and Color Club polishes here soon). Electric Pineapple is....interesting. I mean, it's pretty unique which is why I bought it, but I think it would look the best on darker skintones. It is a yellow creme polish with lots of green undertones. The second picture is not as color accurate as the other two. I'm not sure what was going on there. The application was a bit tricky as well. Being a yellow, are you really surprised? I found the formula to be a bit thick, but a tiny bit of thinner fixes that.

Small Giveaway Coming Soon!

I've been a bad blogger. I haven't had a giveaway in such a long time. Rest assured, I will be having a little one up this week, so please stay tuned. And yes, I will be back later tonight to resume the swatching madness :-D I hope your week is going well!

China Glaze Summer 2011 Island Escape Collection: Papaya Punch

China Glaze Papaya Punch (2 coats)

True Blood is back on tonight! I'm going over to my friend Tara's to watch it and I am so excited! I do love me some Alexander Skarsgard!

Continuing on with the Island Escape Collection is Papaya Punch. I expected this one to be sheerer like Senorita Bonita, but it was actually really pigmented and only needed 2 coats. It is a bright orange creme, but I hesitate to call it a neon. Sometimes orange polishes don't look the best on my skin, but I still love them! This one may be in the running for my favorite orange (I still really love Misa's Speed of Life as well).

China Glaze Summer 2011 Island Escape Collection: Senorita Bonita

China Glaze Senorita Bonita (3 coats)

Happy Saturday everyone! I just got home from an exciting errand running expedition which included a stop at Bath and Body Works which gave me a free 2 oz bottle of their newest citrus collection that comes out July 4th. You can find the coupon here, if interested. I ended up getting the Peach Citrus which smells nice. My least favorite of the three was definitely the Pomegranate Citrus.
When ordering some polishes from the newest China Glaze Collection, I was a bit dubious about getting Senorita Bonita. I like purple and all, but it didn't seem to call to me. Boy, am I glad I picked it up! I was in love with it and gave it a few days wear which is a rarity for me. It is a medium purple polish with lots of pink shimmer. It's a pretty dark polish so I was surprised it needed a full three coats for full coverage. Despite being sheerer than expected, the application was great.

Nail Art: Color Club Revealed and Milani Gems

Color Club Revealed (2 coats) Milani Gems (1 coat) 1 more coat of Revealed

You guys know I'm not that into nail art. It's not that I don't like it, I'm just really lazy and bad at it. While this isn't technically nail art, I think it is much more artsy than a normal polish. I can't take credit for this creation since I saw something similar posted on the Nail Board on MUA. The base is made of 2 coats of Color Club's Revealed. It's best to have a sheerer polish so you can actually see the glitter through it. After the 2 coats of Revealed is a single layer of Milani Gems (the one without the pink glitter). To create the Funfetti-like appearance, you put one thin layer of Revealed over the glitter to create this fun combination. I'm loving this so much! I think this would work with other colors, but you have to make sure it is sheer. I liked the pink because it reminds of a cupcake! What do you think?

Barielle Fall 2010 Style in Argyle Collection: Aura Angora

Barielle Aura Angora (2 coats)

Man is this one ugly mustard creme polish! While cruising the clearance section of Ulta, I found this gem sitting there for only $1.99. It looked so unique in the bottle I just had to take it home with me. Unfortunately, it just looks horrible on the nail. Horrible. I applaud Barielle for trying something different, but it's just not working for me. I often find Barielle polishes to be really thick and needing lots of thinner, but this one was just fine with great pigmentation. Too bad the color looks like my parent's 1970s kitchen linoleum from my childhood.

Revlon 3 Pack Minis: Sparkle

Revlon Sparkle (1 coat over 2 coats of Revlon Garden)

I feel like today's post is going to be pretty boring because the final polish of the trio is a clear glitter topcoat called Sparkle. It contains large silver hexagonal glitter pieces with smaller silver glitter. Revlon had a collection not too long ago that contained glitter like this along with different colors of glitter that looked pretty cool. It's pretty crazy that I didn't end up picking up even 1 of them while they were out! This topcoat is fine, but nothing really special. I really wish there was a third polish in here instead of having the topcoat.

Revlon 3 Pack Minis: Garden

Revlon Garden (2 coats)

Happy Father's Day! I hope all the fathers out there had a great (and relaxing) day! Quick post tonight because I'm going over to a friend's house to watch the season finale of Game of Thrones. Garden is the second polish from the three polish set that I mentioned from yesterday. It's a yellowed grassy green creme that is slightly darker on the nail compared to the bottle. It was quite pigmented and barely the two polishes that I used in the photos. As far as I know, these polishes are only in the trio set, but I really hope they decide to release them in full-sized bottles soon. Has anyone heard if these are just limited edition? Anyway, I hope you had a wonderful weekend and you have a great start of the week!

Revlon 3 Pack Minis: Waterfall

Revlon Waterfall (2 coats)

Hey guys, I just got home from watching Super 8 and it was pretty cute. It didn't change my life or anything, but it was a good time.

I was at Walgreens awhile back and saw these three pack minis from Revlon. You will be seeing the other two polishes the next couple days and right now I have Waterfall to show you. I've been so proud of Revlon lately. It seems like several drugstore brands have sort of given up on making cool polishes (I'm looking at you, Covergirl!), but Revlon keeps up with the times. Waterfall is a gorgeous pale blue polish with lots of silver shimmer. I think this is the one that really made me buy the set. I also want to mention how Revlon has awesome minis. Every bottle has a regular label on the top with the name of the polish, unlike mini polishes from OPI. Also, the brush on this was just fine with no application problems. The set will set you back only $7.99 which I think is a pretty fair price. I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Collection: Sparrow Me the Drama

OPI Sparrow Me the Drama (2 coats)

Happy Birthday, Mom! :-D

So this is the last polish I bought from the collection. Now that I think back on it, I bought pretty much the entire thing! I honestly wasn't planning on getting so many of them, but I was overall pretty happy with the collection (despite it being for Pirates of the Caribbean and the really stupid names...such as Sparrow Me the Drama). I know a lot of bloggers hate on pink polishes, but I actually like them most of the time and Sparrow Me the Drama was just calling my name. As soon as I saw the bottle, I knew I had to get it. It is a dusty pink creme that I love. So, are you a fan of pink polishes?

OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Collection: Planks A Lot

OPI Planks A Lot (2 coats)

Aaaaannnnnnnddddd it's hump day. This week just seems to be flying by! I just want to give a quick shout out to my mom who is a birthday girl tomorrow (don't worry, I'll be posting this tomorrow as well..hope you guys don't mind!). One thing I like about OPI's Planks A Lot (well, besides the name) is the fact that it isn't too light. I find that other lavender creme polishes tend to wash me out a bit. I can honestly say that all of the polishes I've tried from this collection had wonderful application and formula. I hope you don't mind that this is short and sweet tonight.

OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Collection: Mermaid's Tears

OPI Mermaid's Tears (2 coats)

I've been cheating on my Poshe topcoat for Seche Vite again. I know, I know, I often talk crap about Seche for the shrinkage that it gives me, but I decided to give it another chance. Well, I find that if I wrap my tips really well, I've been having manicures that last for several days with no chipping or peeling at all. After about 3 days I start to get slight shrinkage, but nothing too bad. I've also been loving Gelous from Sally's Beauty Supply. Since it is so thick it really strengthens my nails. So overall, I use Essie Sensitivity base coat, followed by a layer of Gelous, 2-3 layers of polish, followed by Seche. Awesome manicures!

When I made an order from Transdesign (which is apparently Nailsupplies.us now) and bought a couple more from the Pirates of the Caribbean collection. Mermaid's Tears is a cool dusty pastel green creme that had such great application despite being a pastel color. It was quite pigmented and only needed 2 coats with no streaking or pulling of color. While I really like the color, I feel like it could be easily duped (and I would go for that since OPI polishes are quite expensive...even online).

Yay, Deadliest Catch is on tonight!

Essie Steeling the Scene

Essie Steeling the Scene (2 coats)

Oh man, it's almost Monday again. The weekends always go so quickly, don't they? When Ulta had their buy 2 polishes, get 1 free deal last month, I picked up Steeling the Scene for the free one. It is a pewter metallic polish that has a hint of gold to it. I feel like this one had a chance of being pretty awesome, but it ended up being too streaky for my liking. Blah. Besides the extreme streakiness, the application and formula was pretty good. If you think you can get past the streaks in this one, you may want to pick this one up, but if you are like me, it's a pass.

Essie Spring 2011: Sand Tropez

Essie Sand Tropez (2 coats)

Wow, I've slept so much the last couple days. After getting home from work at 8 last night, I went to take a nap and ended up sleeping until 11 this morning. I know! When I woke up I watched some of my favorite shows Say Yes to the Dress and My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. It's amazing how different my life is compared to the traveling gypsies! Anyone watching this show?

Essie's Sand Tropez is one of those nice neutral (or nude) polishes. It is a beige/taupe creme that I found to work alright with my skintone. That's one of my issues with these types of polishes. The first coat on this one was pretty crappy and streaky, but the second ended up giving me full coverage. I dunno, I like this one enough, but I'm not completely blown away either.

Essie Spring 2011: Coat Azure

Essie Coat Azure (2 coats)

Blogspot can be pretty awesome sometimes. You can officially see the new mobile version of Right on the Nail from your smartphone! Instead of seeing a scrunched up version of the blog, you can now see a picture with a short excerpt from the post. So far I'm liking it! Have you seen it yet? What are your feelings?

While waiting for the Essie Braziliant collection to hit stores (it definitely feels like a summer collection!), I ended up picking up Coat Azure from the spring collection. It is a dazzling dusty blue polish with a shimmer finish. It's just one of those polishes that looks great on and even photographs well! I love this one! While I haven't been a huge fan of Essie in the past (can we say blah colors?), they have really been stepping up their game. Perhaps the acquisition from L'Oreal wasn't such a bad thing after all. The application and formula was spectacular as well, barely needing the 2 coats shown here.
