Quirius Lavender Bouquet

Quirius Lavender Bouquet (2 coats)

So back in November the Quirius online store went offline for a systems upgrade. Their website says that they will be opening back up April 10th, so I thought I'd show a polish that I forgot to swatch earlier. Lavender Bouquet is a great purple creme that is so appropriate for Easter! Some people have been looking for a purple like this, so I just wanted to let people know more about the Quirius polishes. I can honestly say I've never had a problem with application of their polishes, and this one was perfect in just 2 coats.
I also wanted to say that their topcoat is probably one of my favorites (yes, it beats Seche AND Poshe in my book). It dries quickly and I've never had a problem with shrinkage (I am looking at YOU Seche *angry face*) and it is a fraction of the cost depending on where you buy the others.

Essence Just in Case

Essence Just in Case (2 coats)

Just in case you've never heard of Essence before, it is a German company that can now be found at Ulta stores. They have a variety of makeup items and several nail polishes. The bottles are small (0.16 fl. oz./5 mL), but the brushes are actually good! It is a flat brush, but it is not nearly as wide as the OPI Pro Wide brushes. The best part? They are only $0.99!

Just in Case is a nice bronze/brown shimmer polish. I really like this one with my skin tone! I think it would be very work appropriate as well. Application was really great (being a new brand I had never heard of I was a little dubious) and it only needed 2 coats for full coverage. Run, don't walk to get these! The products were a little hard to find, but they were on an endcap, so you might want to check there first.

Bloom San Francisco

Bloom San Francisco (2 coats)

Oh yes, I was lucky enough to find another nail fanatic from Australia to do a swap with me. SQUEE, I have a Bloom polish! I also have many new brands to show you guys and I cannot wait to continue swatching them. San Francisco is an awesome duochrome shimmer of blue, green, and gold. If you look at the edges of my nails and the bottle pics, you can see the blue in it, but when you look straight on/in the light, you can definitely see the green and gold pigments. The application on it was flawless. I honestly haven't had a polish apply as well in several weeks. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Bloom's polishes contain Toluene. For some of you this may be an issue, but for me I just try to limit my exposure.

Jessica Cosmetics Daydream Spring 2010: Starry Eyed

Jessica Cosmetics Starry Eyed (2 coats)

Today I have the final polish from the Jessica Cosmetics Daydream Spring 2010 collection. Here we have Starry Eyed which is a soft pink shimmer with a frosty finish. I know, some people hate frosts, but I think this one is a really nice color. I love the shimmer in it and it is much more opaque than Flight of Fancy and only needed 2 coats to achieve this look. Overall, this is a really nice, safe collection. Sure, it's not blasting with unique colors and finishes, but I did like all of them. The formula was fine and really worked well with their Bend Don't Break nail treatment and Brilliance topcoat. I have found a few more colors on their website that I want to try.

This was a great weekend for me (both life and nail polish wise)! I got to go to Ulta where I bought a few Ulta brand polishes for $2. I'll make sure to have these up soon for you.

Jessica Cosmetics Daydream Spring 2010: Enchante

Jessica Cosmetics Enchante (3 coats)

We're on the 5th polish out of the 6 for the collection. Enchante (yes, it is fancy shmancy and has an accent on the final e-but I'm too lazy to change this right now) is a fun bright pink shimmer that flashes blue. I feel like I posted a picture of a polish recently that looks similar to this. Perhaps a Diamond Cosmetics polish? I'll have to look it up. I love me some pinks, so of course this one is a keeper. So far I am really happy with the application on their polishes. They may be ever-so-slightly thick, but it is still good. Also, I wore a few of the polishes for almost 3 days and I had no chipping using their Brilliance topcoat.

Meeting Harlan Coben

Here I am with the author Harlan Coben in Raleigh, NC. We were cracking him up so much he was laughing during the picture. Good times.

Jessica Cosmetics Daydream Spring 2010: Cloud Mine

Jessica Cosmetics Cloud Mine (3 coats)

Cloud Mine is a beautiful opalescent seafoam green polish that has lots of yellow undertones (see the bottom picture). This one is pretty different than most of the mint greens that have come along this spring. It needed three coats, but I may have gotten away with 2.

I got to meet Harlan Coben tonight! His presentation was so funny, and I got a picture with him as well (I hope get the picture up soon). What a fun night in Raleigh, NC! So yes, I had a good reason to be posting late tonight :-D

Jessica Cosmetics Daydream Spring Collection 2010: Perchance to Dream

Jessica Cosmetics Perchance to Dream (3 coats)

Sorry this is so late tonight; I was in the car driving for 4 and a half hours. Better late than never, right? Perchance to Dream is a champagne colored frost that I really like. It's almost a mannequin hand (which I'm usually not into) but I still really like it! Application was a little thick, but nothing a drop or 2 of thinner wouldn't fix. So far I am really loving this collection, even if it doesn't scream "SPRING!!!" to me.

Jessica Cosmetics Daydream Spring 2010: Flight of Fancy

Jessica Cosmetics Flight of Fancy (4 coats)

Up next is Flight of Fancy by Jessica Cosmetics. I'm really not sure about this one. On one hand, I just love the pink color with silver shimmer in it. Some think that pink is too safe and boring, but I have tons of them. The bad? It is SO SHEER. The picture shows 4 coats and you can still see my nail line faintly. If this were a little more opaque I'd be all over it. Application was fine (and with 4 coats it has to apply fine or you'll have major issues!).

Jessica Cosmetics Daydream Spring 2010: Eyes Wide Open

Jessica Cosmetics Eyes Wide Open (3 coats)

I'm proud to show everyone the new Jessica Cosmetics Daydream Spring 2010 collection. I'm embarrassed to mention that these are my first Jessica polishes (I've loved many swatches I've seen though!) so I was happy to review these. Eyes Wide Open is a bright orange/tangerine shimmer that is just beautiful! I think this is perfect for spring, and I am just happy to have some polishes with some shimmer in it! Application on the collection was slightly thick and pooled a little on the edges of my nails. Overall it wasn't a big issue. Love this one!

Icing Unnamed Purple

Icing Unnamed Purple (2 coats)

Ugh, crappy picture time. Sorry about that. Obviously my fingers aren't that freaky white color. Anyway, back to my final unnamed Icing polish. You guys know how angry unnamed polishes make me. Today I am going to just rename it Rhodopseudomonas. Why? Because bacteria is awesome, especially this genus of purple photosynthetic bacteria. The polish is a purple metallic that you really have to be careful of brush strokes. Overall great color and important bacterium. Enjoy!

Zoya Pulse Collection: Colbie

Zoya Colbie (2 coats)

Zoya's Colbie comes from the Pulse Collection. I also have the polish Blaire from the same collection and they are pretty similar in color. It is a red/maroon shimmer that definitely appears lighter in direct light. Application was great like most Zoya polishes and only needed 2 coats.

I've had a really blah weekend. I've been sitting at the computer playing with DNA sequences from bacteria off the coast of New Zealand (yes, that was an AWESOME trip). I hope to go to a book signing for the author Harlan Coben next weekend so I'm looking forward to that. Anyone have an exciting weekend?

OPI Ulta Exclusive: Pink Me I'm Good

OPI Pink Me I'm Good (3 coats)

Pink Me I'm Good is a Valentine's Day Exclusive for Ulta. I know, I'm a little late for a Valentine's Day polish, but oh well. It's a bright pink jelly with gold and silver glitter throughout. I thought that the gold glitter looked really orange at times. While I love it, I really wish it was a little more opaque. This was three coats and still had visible nail line.

Please excuse me while I go off topic: KANSAS GOT BEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy crap!

P.S. I have Kentucky winning it all, but I secretly want OSU to win

OPI Matte Collection: Lincoln Park after Dark Matte

OPI Lincoln Park After Dark Matte (2 coats)

So I really wanted to love OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark, but I just can't. If it happened to look anything like it does in the bottle I'd be all for it! Unfortunately it just looks black on the nail...a matte black. Application was like most mattes and dried quickly.

Ulta: Blue Streak

Ulta Blue Streak (2 coats)

Blue Streak is from the new polishes from Ulta. As you can see from the picture, they have a new square bottle. Can I tell you how much I love this color?! A lot! It's a bright blue creme that really applied like a dream. You can usually find these on sale at Ulta, but if you go and they aren't, definitely wait a week or 2. Prior to this new collection, their polishes were a little on the boring side so I'm really excited for their change. What do you think?

I don't know if anyone is watching the NCAA tournament, but my bracket is really screwed. I can't believe there were so many upsets!

And finally, I have started a Facebook fan page! You can find it here, or right below my Twitter page link (for some reason I just can't get into Twitter so I'm going to Facebook since I'm a huge fan). Feel free to join me in nail polish, makeup, life, whatever talk! I'll see you there!

Milani 3D Holographic Collection: Cyberspace

Milani Cyberspace (3 coats)

Again, what a beautiful holo! This time Cyberspace is up and it is a great light blue holographic polish from Milani. As you can see, the holo goodness is chunkier than some other companies (for example, the OMG collection from China Glaze), but there was no grittiness with this one with a topcoat. Application was great and needed a full 3 coats to be opaque. I am really regretting not getting High-Res (the purple one).

Milani 3D Holographic Collection: Hi-Tech

Milani 3D Holographic Hi-Tech (3 coats)

SQUEEEEE! It's a holo! It's a GREEN holo! I'm sure most of you have seen swatches of these already, but I have 2 of the Milani 3D Holographic Collection polishes for you. Since I post every night, this one will be my Happy St. Patrick's Day!! post. Because of this, today's polish is a green one. Hi-Tech is a green holographic polish that is closer to a lime green color. Most of the time holos stand out more in natural in sunlight, but with these, the holo finish is really accentuated in artificial light. In the bottle these don't look like much, but on the nail, whoa! This one is a definite must-buy. Application was great and it was opaque in 3 coats.

Nina Ultra Pro Crushed Velvet Collection: Velvet Seas

Nina Ultra Pro Velvet Seas (2 coats)

The second polish from the Nina Ultra Pro Crushed Velvet Collection is Velvet Seas. This is a dusty blue metallic polish with gold flecks throughout. Overall, this is a really unique polish for my collection and I'm so glad I bought a few of these. Application and formula was the same as Velveteen Rabbit (it was good!).

I just received the Jessica Cosmetics Spring Collection in the mail. I hope to start swatching those soon!

Nina Ultra Pro Crushed Velvet Collection: Velveteen Rabbit

Nina Ultra Pro Velveteen Rabbit (2 coats)

This is the first time I've tried Nina Ultra Pro nail polish that can be found at Sally's Beauty Supply stores. The collection somewhat reminds me of the new foils from the Orly Foil FX Collection. I have three from the Crushed Velvet Collection to show you this week and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Up first is Velveteen Rabbit which is a metallic gold and silver foil. I absolutely love how this one looks! Since I've never used this brand I was pleasantly surprised with the application and formula on these. Overall, it's a great start. I believe that the retail price on these is $3.49, but I was lucky enough to get the ones I did for $1.50 because my Sally's had a special one weekend. Sure, it's not quite as blingy as the Orly's but for about half the price in-store, I think these are just as good.

Maybelline Limited Edition Something Sweet Collection: Goody Plum Drop

Maybelline Goody Plum Drop (3 coats)

The only other polish from the Something Sweet Collection I bought was Goody Plum Drop. At first I thought this one was going to be a dupe for Zoya Malia, but after Malia dried,  it was much darker than the Maybelline. It is a beautiful Easter purple creme with a slight shimmer throughout. The only downside to this one? Again, the application. Ugh, I hate the brush. There aren't balls. The first coat is streaky, but it gets better with a few coats.

Maybelline Limited Edition Something Sweet collection: Minty

Maybelline Minty (3 coats)

Today I have a drugstore polish from Maybelline from their limited edition Something Sweet Collection. Minty was the one that is separate from the rest of the polishes from the collection for some reason. I was lucky enough to get this one at Ulta that had a dollar off coupon with it. Unfortunately the brush on this one sucks...bad. Many people have complained about this and people on the Makeup Alley boards noticed that the polishes don't have balls in it to mix it. I think this would fix some of the issues I had with the polish. The first coat was a streaky mess, and the second wasn't much better. Finally after the third coat it was mostly opaque. That being said, what a beautiful mint green! I still need to get around to doing a comparison of all the mint greens I own.

Essie Spring 2010: Van D'Go

Essie Van D'Go (2 coats)

So when I got Van D'Go from the Essie Spring 2010 collection I thought it was going to be a creamy pink polish. Unfortunately when it is applied, it really turns into a peachy pink color (and heavy on the peach). Some were saying applying a quick dry topcoat caused the change in color, but what you see above is without a topcoat. I'm just really underwhelmed with this one. As you guys I can tell, I don't buy Essie polishes often (a girl can only have so many light pinks), but I recently saw their next collection and it really looks promising (sorry I don't have any pictures yet). Application on this one was pretty annoying since it was thick and would pool at the edges of my nails. Try to thin it out and apply thin coats. Overall, meh.

Diamond Cosmetics Not Your "Hum Drum" Plum

Diamond Cosmetics Not Your "Hun Drum" Plum (2 coats)

I've had this one to put up forever (as you can see from my middle finger which is so short here), but for some reason I have been slacking. Not Your "Hum Drum" Plum from Diamond Cosmetics looks pretty similar to their polish Crushed Velvet, but Hum Drum appears brighter and more of a blurple than Crushed Velvet which is a deeper plum. I honestly don't remember how it applied since it's been so long, but it doesn't stick out in my mind that it was difficult to work with (and Diamond Cosmetics' polishes are usually good). It's a nice color, but isn't my favorite from Diamond Cosmetics.

Zoya Anastasia

Zoya Anastasia (2 coats)

Today I'm back to a Zoya polish called Anastasia. This beauty is a reddish brown polish loaded with gold shimmer. Like I said before, I used so many creme polishes that this streak of shimmers really helped. Why don't shimmers get more love? The change of color, the ease of application, the way it looks in sunlight...what isn't there to like?

Tomorrow night is my Flight of the Conchords Season 1/Nail Polish party and I am really excited! Any suggestions for a color to wear tomorrow?
